The film's environments combined practical builds with digital extensions to render its decayed future landscapes and walled citadels; Chumak contributed as a digital matte painter.

Vesper is a 2022 science-fiction film directed by Kristina Buozyte and Bruno Samper, a Lithuanian, French and Belgian co-production set after the collapse of Earth's ecosystem. Made on a modest independent budget, it was praised for its world-building, mixing practical sets with digital effects. MPC provided visual-effects services and released a breakdown covering the film's creatures, flying craft and biotech environments.

How the environments were made

Vesper takes place in a future after Earth's ecosystem has collapsed, leaving a damaged landscape divided between citadels for the wealthy and a diseased world beyond. Director Kristina Buozyte said the aim was to build an entire universe with its own rules, sociology, culture and biology. Bruno Samper described the method as world building, which allowed them to put storytelling into every visual and sound asset onscreen. Live action sequences were filmed in natural locations around Vilnius, Lithuania, including a fairytale forest that the crew spent nearly a year scouting, so the practical world could carry as much of the film as possible. Carnivorous plants, drones, and a slime like biological material, none of which could be built on location, came from the effects side. Wulf-Fx, a Belgian company, produced the practical effects, and VFX work was divided among Mac-Guff, Mathematic, Light Visual Effects and MPC Liege under overall VFX supervisor Yann Blondel. As a digital matte painter, Chumak worked on the film.
