How the environments were made

2.0 picks up the story from Enthiran with a hero and a villain built mostly through digital work. After joining the project in 2015, Tau Films worked with director Shankar and VFX supervisor V. Srinivas Mohan on the look of Chitti's various forms and of Pakshi Rajan, and built the CG cities, massive crowds and the technology behind the film's cellphone swarm. The production filmed in Chennai and Delhi, used a second unit in Bolivia and Ukraine, and staged a stadium battle sequence that Tau Films designed and motion captured with action director Nick Powell. Tau's VFX supervisor Walt Jones described it as one of the most VFX-intensive projects the studio had taken on. According to Kyiv-based Postmodern's own project page, its work on the film consisted of onset supervising, 3D assets, animation, FX, shading and lighting, and compositing. The 23 vendor studios working under Srinivas Mohan completed around 2,150 VFX shots. The film's credits list Chumak as Digital matte painter, PostModern Digital.
