The Changeling

In The Changeling, New York City becomes a fairy tale gone wrong, and the production developed that shift gradually rather than in one move. Production designer Lester Cohen wanted the series to begin anchored in reality, inside convincing apartments and subway cars, before viewers realized they had passed through a portal into other worlds hidden within the city. That translated into physical sets for Apollo and Emma's apartments and an old subway car dressed with the grime a New Yorker would recognize, as well as library murals of the Callisto myth that pointed to what lay ahead. With that groundwork in place, Atmosphere VFX, Crafty Apes, FuseFX, Pixomondo and Refuge VFX produced the digital effects the story required after it moved beyond the ordinary city, under Production VFX Supervisor Greg Behrens and, at Pixomondo, Christopher Ahrens. The credit for Chumak on the series is senior digital matte painter, Pixomondo.
