Cyborgs: Heroes Never Die

Cyborgs: Heroes Never Die rebuilds the old terminal interior of Donetsk airport on a constructed set, not on location. Production designer Shevket Seydametov and his crew worked inside a disused hangar near Kyiv to build the corridor, the duty-free hall and the service rooms that would house the cyborgs' bases, starting from scratch and using the same materials as the actual terminal: metal, drywall and structural profiles, across roughly 1,500 square meters. Exterior combat scenes on the runway and around the shelled terminal facade were captured separately, at a reserve airfield and a military training ground in Chernihiv Oblast. Before filming began, director Akhtem Seitablaiev said the production planned a large amount of battle footage and computer graphics beyond what the sets and stunt work could deliver, but that the film was first and foremost about "the world being born here," not the spectacle.
