Shanghai Fortress

In Shanghai Fortress, the 2042 setting unfolds in a Shanghai rebuilt as a shield-protected last line of defence against an alien invasion. The production designers intentionally blended the future city with the present one: the futuristic high-rises and shield-state displays stand beside the Shanghai audiences already know, including its familiar lilong lanes. Territory Studio constructed the CG centre of the command-centre set, along with the holographic city map and shield-state displays. Lead post-production house Tiangong Yicai went further, building a full digital model of the city itself. All the Shanghai story beats, street collapses, cannon fire, and combat with the alien invaders were staged inside that model. VFX supervisor Wang Xuan said the method was a deliberate step up in the studio's own 3D capability, meant to hold up under the scale of a war film built around large-scale destruction.
