The Pixomondo environment team's work included locations such as the Southern Air Temple, developed through matte painting and photobashing to guide the 3D build. Chumak contributed as a senior digital matte painter at Pixomondo.

Avatar: The Last Airbender is Netflix's 2024 live-action adaptation of the animated series, built heavily on virtual production. Pixomondo was a lead environment vendor alongside Scanline VFX, Framestore, Image Engine, Important Looking Pirates and Accenture Song, crafting large world environments and the show's bending effects, partly on Pixomondo's LED stage in Vancouver.

How the environments were made

Netflix's live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender needed to convert an animated world of four nations into settings that a camera could realistically occupy. In Season one, the production relied on StageCraft virtual production, filming scenes such as the Fire Nation's throne room inside an LED volume rather than constructing a complete physical set. For other locations, partial sets were built and then extended digitally: the production physically built only part of Agna Qel'a, the Northern Water Tribe's capital city, leaving the rest of the frozen city for the visual effects teams to complete. More than twenty studios divided the resulting workload, producing around 3,400 shots across the season's eight episodes, including scenes in the Spirit World, which Aang enters to consult a past Avatar. Season two moved from virtual production toward large-scale practical builds such as Ba Sing Se, changing how much of the environment work went to digital extension rather than LED-volume compositing. Chumak is credited on the production as Senior digital matte painter, Pixomondo.
