Ballerina

Ballerina takes place in the John Wick world, where most of the action comes from practical stunt work, but the camera still required backgrounds that no real location could supply. In the ice club sequence, photographed at Budapest's then unopened zoo biodome, beloFX reconstructed most of the staircases and concrete columns as CG ice, added dry ice and cold breath so the temperature would seem convincing, and rotoscoped nearly every performer and set element, coverage extensive enough that the client could request any shot the edit required. Later in the film, a car crash on a New York street was assembled from two plates that did not align, so beloFX rebuilt the environment and camera in CG, reconstructed a building from the Prague location, and filled the street with background traffic that the original filming plan did not include. On this film, Chumak is credited at Pixomondo as a senior matte painter.
