Pulse

Pulse recounts the true story of Ukrainian track-and-field athlete Oksana Boturchuk, and its narrative concludes at the 2008 Beijing Paralympics, inside China's National Stadium, the Bird's Nest. The production was not able to shoot in Beijing. Instead, it filmed the stadium scenes at NSC Olympiyskiy in Kyiv, an actual venue but the wrong one, with architecture, surrounding skyline, and crowd geometry that were wrong for the sequence the story required. Postmodern Digital was responsible for closing that gap. The studio constructed a complete CG replica of the Bird's Nest and determined how to place it around footage shot inside the Kyiv stadium, including previsualizing the space and planning how to stage and film extras so that a Ukrainian bowl would appear on screen as a Chinese one. The team worked with director Sergii Chebotarenko from storyboard through to final shot, so the stadium swap was built into the production plan rather than corrected afterward.
