Three HBO Max shows and three different cities, two of them invented. House of the Dragon is Westeros: castles and landscapes including the Harrenhal build, kept fluid rather than static so the camera could move through them, with the Pixomondo environment team. The Penguin turns New York plates into street-level Gotham, down to the bridges, underpasses and the crumbling seawalls of the flood sequence.
Perry Mason goes the other way and rebuilds somewhere that did exist: 1930s Los Angeles, as period set extensions layered over scouted modern locations. House of the Dragon is the most widely rated title in the studio's whole filmography on IMDb.
